Recently dyed/painted/printed cloth ready for next projects. Pomegranate (and blended with Cochineal for a rosey color), as well as a blend of Black Walnut and Logwood. One step at a time. π
Yesterday's rain washing away the first wave of pollen. Swirled down. Love. Spring in ATL.
I'm diving into a group of natural dyes this year and I've decided to look more closely at each of them as the year progresses. More to come...but first, an overview image (clockwise from top/left): ground Madder root; dried whole Cochineal bugs, Logwood bark chips, ground Marigold flowers, ground Black Walnut hulls, Weld plant material, Cutch extract and ground Pomegranate rind.... not pictured but essential... Indigo, which I will blend with these colors as I go. π
Continuing with a new, quiet series of works, components of a larger, emergent natural dye project. More as it unfolds.π
Busy in the studio - preparing for new wall pieces, workshops, and cloth for this year's wearable work!
First piece in a new "tapestry" series. This one derives its color from blends of Pomegranate rind, Logwood, Cochineal and Cutch.π
Recently in the studio...#naturaldye extraction for paint/print/immersion stocks; some immersion baths and samples from paint/print play.π
Liquid moment in time.
January has a quiet, calm, cocoon-ish energy for me. A bit of contemplation, looking back, and planning for the next wave. Feeling the pull but indulging in the slower pace for now. π·a little composite of some of the work last year.
