Decorative Textiles: I envision these works transcending barriers between application/use. While some of these pieces have dimensions which make them suitable for wearing or draping, and others more suited to blanketing or throwing, their uses are often interchangeable. Process: My “gateway” textile techniques were weaving and surface design (specifically including dyeing, printing and resist techniques). All of these streams still persist in my process and work today and I could not accurately describe my work as a textile artist and designer without including these facets. I am also a keen student of dye-alchemy and continue to study and work with a variety of dye classes which greatly expand my palette choices for a range of media. While my current/primary structural oeuvre is laminated (“nuno”) felting, developing surfaces on cloth via resist and print techniques provides a satisfying counterpoint to that work.
