Stitched Modules

To conserve precious natural dyes, I tend to work with smaller sections of cloth. My desire to foreground this naturally dyed cloth led me to contemplate quilt modules, which also became a convenient format for a range of hand-applied, stitched surface designs (on top of often patterned cloth). Since that original conception, I began to feature each module as a distinct unit, often framed, presented alone and in sets. Prepared for the 2020 The Hambidge Center auction, the short video below describes aspects of the process (and it’s origins in my own practice).
